Sculpting in Surface Bonding Cement

This is a workshop for everyone who has filled his or her home with artwork and now needs to expand outdoors. The answer is to create artwork in cement!

This is a three-day intensive workshop where students create a sculpture out of cement. Students learn how to construct an armature out of steel pipe and plumbing fittings; glue and carve Styrofoam sheeting around the armature and apply cement to the Styrofoam. Techniques for constructing an armature, foam carving, mixing and working with cement, adding color and sealants will be covered.

Fee: $150 with minimum of 4 students
$400 for individual tutoring
A 25% deposit must be received two weeks before the date of the workshop.
Students must bring their own materials and supplies.
A copy of the material list will be sent after receiving the deposit.


 

Latex Mold Making for the Creation of Decorative Tiles or Stepping Stones

Anyone can create a flat tile. But what about a three dimensional tile or a decorative stepping-stones for the garden? A three dimensional tile is any shape that has a flat backside which allows it to be mounted on a surface such as a wall or walkway by setting it in cement.

In this two-day workshop students learn how to create a one part latex mold for creating stepping-stones or decorative three-dimensional tiles.

Students learn how to set up an original shape on clay bed, apply layers of latex to create a flexible rubber mold and a plaster jacket to support the mold. Students will practice pouring copies from their mold with cement.

Students must have an original shape ready for a mold to be made from it.

Sculpting in Extreme Paper Mache

Extreme paper mache is the process of applying paper mache over a steel and or foam armature.

In this two-day workshop students learn how to create an armature; mix the proprietary recipe for the adhesive; make and apply paper stripping; create a smooth surface or create texture. Techniques for applying paints and water proofing will also be covered.

Students must come with an idea in the form of a sketch that they would like to create.

Fee: $150 with minimum of 4 students
